Mac OS X users -- have you ever found that items you wanted to be stored on an external drive or secondary partition are being copied to the Volumes folder and taking up space on your hard disk instead? This can needlessly take up space on your hard disk and cause disks to appear with different names in some places. To deal with this issue, disconnect or unmount that drive and choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, and enter /Volumes/ as the folder's path. Select each of the items in this folder and choose Get Info from the File menu; for each item which isn't listed as an alias, and move it to the desktop. If the folder doesn't contain anything useful, throw it away.
